Under the Basho 2014

an apple
here in hiding
. . . nothing more

awake with the birds
I distill the who I am
from the edge of light

first light
the fall from it
all around

losing heart
a loss of words
fills the air

overhead
galaxies swamped
in equations

scented night —
a moth enters the hush
between stars

soundless by starlight —
the poet sipping darkness
from a mirror's eyes
